MAINE - On Thursday April 16th, don’t miss the Special Olympics Maine annual state swim meet. Close to four hundred Special Olympics Maine athletes, representing 45 local Maine teams from across the state, will compete at the Tarbell pool at Bates College in Lewiston from 9:15Am until 4PM. Awards will be presented throughout the entire day.
BANGOR - Bangor City Manager Catherine Conlow will submit a proposed budget for fiscal year 2016 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016) to the City Council prior to tonight’s City Council Meeting at 7:30 PM. The proposed budget is the City Manager’s recommendation to the City Council; by charter, the City Council has until June 30th to adopt a final budget. The City’s Manager’s proposed budget will be available on the City’s website at www.bangormaine.gov/budget following the meeting.
AUGUSTA - The Attorney General's Office says a Mexico police officer and a Maine State Police trooper shot a South Paris man in self-defense last August.
52-year-old Steven Piirainen died after exchanging gunfire with State Trooper Paul Casey and Mexico Reserve Officer Dean Benson.
Piirainen stole a pickup truck from a Norway bar and led police on a chase that ended at a convenience store in Mexico.
CARIBOU - The Maine Elks Association, in conjunction with the City of Caribou, is pleased to announce that Chief Michael W. Gahagan has been selected as the Maine Elks Association’s nominee for the prestigious, Elks national Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Award. The company will be reaching out to all affected customers in advance to let them know when work is scheduled to take place, beginning this week in Waterville.
AUGUSTA - The Maine Health Care Association (MHCA) will honor 32 residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities statewide, two posthumously. These people, ages 61-103, are decorated War heroes, and community leaders such as teachers, nurses, journalists, volunteers, homemakers and small business owners.
BANGOR – On Saturday, May 2nd from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, the U.S. Department of Energy, Sunshot Initiative’s Solar Outreach Partnership (SolarOPs), will host a free workshop highlighting strategies that municipalities across Maine can adopt to encourage solar energy development within their communities.
