Petitioners Looking to "Pull the Pork" from Pentagon Budget

BANGOR - For one group in downtown Bangor today, it was all about "pulling the pork."  That's the phrase they're using in calling for Congress to invest in America's middle class.
Members of the progressive Maine People's Alliance gathered outside the Federal building on Harlow Street, delivering petitions and pork sandwiches to the offices of Senators Collins and King...urging them, to quote, "pull the pork" from the Pentagon budget and use the money to fund social programs.

Across-the-board spending cuts will kick in on Friday...unless Congress can agree on a $1-trillion deficit reduction plan.
