HERMON - Many of us are used to driving, shoveling, and playing in snow...but imagine never having seen the white stuff? Well that was the wish of a young Florida girl who's battling cancer. Our Erin Thomas reports.
Sophia Galvan may be only 6-years-old, but she is one tough cookie...fighting a form of cancer which involves soft tissue tumors, in kids. So when asked her wish... it was a simple request- to see snow and build a snowman.
A police escort showed Sophia and her family to Hermon Mountain, where the Ski Patrol and other volunteers waited to greet her for a fun-filled afternoon.
With a pack of dogs and sled in tow, Sophia was whisked up the mountain, where a family of snowmen awaited her arrival.
And after flying all the way from Tampa...seeing this winter wonderland was a dream come true.
Erin joined the ABC-7 and FOX Bangor news team in February 2012. She was born and raised in Presque Isle, Maine where she attended Presque Isle High School. While in college Erin interned in the WVII news room before working as a Production Assistant. In May of 2012, Erin received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Maine, along with a minor in Anthropology. When she's not out covering local news, Erin enjoys running, skiing, visiting with family and friends, and traveling around this beautiful state. She is especially interested in outdoor adventure so if you have a story idea, send it her way!
