Community Remembers USS Maine

BANGOR - Dozens of people gathered in Bangor today to  "Remember the Maine".
It was on this date in 1898 when the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana Harbor -- killing nearly three quarters of the ships crew.

Veterans, public officials, and community members held a remembrance ceremony today in Davenport Park where the ships shield is on display. Speakers at today's ceremony said it's a time to remember those who lost their lives.
To this day, it's still a mystery as to what caused the deadly blast. Some believe it was an accident, while others think it was sabotage because the U.S. became involved in a dispute between Spain and Cuba.
