ORRINGTON - Keeping your drink cold hasn't always been as easy as reaching in the freezer for an ice cube.
Less than a century ago, Mainers were harvesting massive blocks from frozen rivers, lakes and ponds... it was once a huge industry in the state. But now adays...it's a bit more about keeping the tradition alive.
Volunteers demonstrate how sawing, lifting, and hauling off, wasn't that easy. And even though it's no longer a commercial industry in Maine, it's a rich part of the state's history.
The Curran Homestead will hold their 5th annual Harvest of Diamonds this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
