BREWER - A truck fire in Brewer today could have been much worse if not for the quick thinking of fire crews who responded to the scene.
Around 9:30 this morning, Authorities say at least 2 hand held propane tanks in the back of a pick up truck had exploded on Day Road after the vehicle caught fire due to an electrical problem.
When crews arrived on scene they faced the task of removing a 100 pound tank of propane that was still in the truck. There were also rounds of ammunition left in the vehicle that were constantly going off due to the flames.
Captain Chris Martin of the Brewer Police Department says, "This is just a reminder of the dangers our crews face on a daily basis." He goes on to say they did an excellent job in fighting this fire.
The 100 pound propane tank was successfully removed from the truck. The pick-up is a total loss. No one was injured in this incident.
This is the second propane explosion this week, after an incident in Bath destroyed an entire home.
