Knox County OKs Airport Upgrades

ROCKLAND -  Knox County is moving to upgrade its airport in the wake of the plane crash that killed three people late last year.
County commissioners unanimously approved the improvements yesterday.

The upgrades reflect recommendations the National Transportation Safety Board made after investigating the November crash that followed the collision of a private plane and a pickup truck that was crossing the runway.

The changes include building a new road so fuel trucks can cross more safely at the beginning of the runway, instead of the current crossing at the one-thousand foot mark of the five-thousand-foot main runway.
