The Bicycle Coalition of Maine has unveiled the route for its first annual "Bike Maine" event, a seven-day, 400 mile tour of the Pine Tree State.
The route begins and ends in Orono and will have cyclists camping in selected host communities along the way, including Dover-Foxcroft, Belfast, Castine, Bar Harbor, and Ellsworth. The Coalition works to promote the environmental and health benefits of biking and also to improve bicycle infrastructure around the state. The event is limited to 350 riders this year, and is expected to sell out. Registration for the event opens to the public at 7 a.m. on February 13 at www.bikemaine.org
. The cost is $875 per rider, and includes meals, beverages, snacks, and camp sites.
