Commission Says No to Voter ID
Augusta - The Commission to Study the Conduct of Elections in Maine has recommended rejecting any attempt to require voter identification.
The commission says there is "little or no history" of voter ID fraud in Maine, and that it would slow the voting process and disenfranchise many poor, rural, and elderly voters who don't have IDs. The report surfaced online yesterday after it was leaked to the Huffington Post. Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap is expected to present the report to the Legislature's Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee today.
