Jonesport - An early morning two-vehicle accident in Jonesport has left one man dead and another injured.
A Washington County Sheriff responded to an accident involving two vehicles on Main Street just after 6 a.m. 56-year-old Randy Thistlewood, of Jonesport, was operating a 1999 Chevy Malibu, heading east at high rates of speed, when he began to skid and lose control of his vehicle. Thistlewood crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Ford F-150 that was being driven by 52-year-old Peta Johnson of Beals, who was heading west on Main Street.
Thistlewood was killed upon impact and pronounced dead on scene. He was extricated from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life and his body was taken to Bragdon Kelly Funeral Home. Johnson was transported to the Machias Hospital with minor injuries.
Emergency response units from Moosabec Ambulance Service, Jonesport Fire Department, and Addison Fire Departments assisted on scene. Neither of the operators of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts. Airbags were deployed in Thistlewood's vehicle. The accident remains under investigation.
