National Ice Drag Races in Medway

MEDWAY - Temperatures in the teens didn't stop hundreds of people from making their way to the annual snowmobile ice drag races. And as our Kristin Hosfelt reports, more than five dozen racers put the medal to the ice in this year's qualifying rounds for the Northeast Winter Nationals.

The only thing hitting triple digits in Medway today, was the speedometer.

"It's intense, the G-forces, it's real fun, it's a blast."

Snowmobilers from as far away as Michigan come here to Medway for what is sure to be the fastest weekend in Northern Maine winter.

"Top speed last year was 149.4, we'll see if today we can break that record," says Ossie Stanley, president of the snowmobile club.

Rene Fischer is gunning for that title- move over gentleman- she's representing the ladies.

"I beat two boys so far on my pink sled, so I'm feeling good."

Some, do it for the adrenaline...others for the bragging rights. Whatever your reason, these participants say it's imperative they have a serious need for speed.
