Home Escapes Major Damage in Fire

Newport - A Newport home was saved from extensive damage earlier today, when a neighbor noticed a fire that had just broken out on the building's first floor.
Crews from Newport, Etna, and Corrina were called to a blaze at 52 Water Street around noon, where they believe a wood-pellet unit started the fire.  None of the residents were inside the home...but a neighbor, whose son first saw the flames, heard dogs barking inside.

Fire officials say all of the pets, which included three turtles, four cats, and two dogs, are expected to survive.
