Questionable Spending At Washington County Jail
MACHIAS - Staff at the Washington County Jail spent thousands of dollars from an inmate benefit fund on things like DVDs, cell phones, personal bills, and lingerie, according to a report for Sheriff Donnie Smith.
The report prepared by the Wheeler and Arey law firm of Waterville, says that in just the last year, jail workers spent more than seven-thousand dollars from the fund on things that didn't benefit prisoners.
Last month Sheriff Smith suspended jail administrator Robert Gross and jail clerk Karina Richardson. Washington County commissioners will meet today to discuss the report
