Island Post Offices Get Part-Time Status

Seven of Maine's island post offices are going part-time.
The U.S. Postal Service grant of part-time status means the post offices will be open six hours a day, and be spared from deeper cuts in service.  U.S. Representatives Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud announced yesterday that post offices on Long Island, Chebeague, North Haven, Islesboro, Cranberry Isles, Swans Island, and Islesford will be open at least six hours a day.  The Postal Service had proposed cutting their hours from eight to four or two, in some cases.
