Waterville Mayor Calls For Hike In Lodging Tax

WATERVILLE -  Waterville Mayor Karen Heck wants to see an increase in Maine's lodging tax, instead of a cut in revenue-sharing payments to communities.
Governor Paul LePage is recommending a two-year halt in revenue-sharing in order to balance the state's budget.
Heck says it makes more sense to address the budget by increasing revenue, particularly through a tax paid by out-of-state visitors.
Maine's seven-percent lodging tax hasn't changed in more than 25 years.
