UMaine Prepares for Astronomy Center, Planetarium to Close

ORONO - The University of Maine will hold it's final two shows ever at it's planetarium this weekend.

The Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium in Wingate Hall will show "Origins of life" on the 25th and 27th of April. These are the final events for the educational venue, which has been open to the public since 1954.

Soon it will be closing as the University gets ready to open the new Emera Astronomy Center this fall.

Officials say the state of the art technology and equipment are needed in order to advance with the industry.

Funding from the new astronomy center is largely made possible by an anonymous donor as well as the power company, Emera Maine.
