LePage Signs Harsher "Patent Trolls" Bill

AUGUSTA - Governor LePage signed a bill Tuesday that will make it harder for patent trolls to harass and extort money from Maine businesses.

These are people or companies that claim patents they hold are being infringed upon by other businesses and then threaten to sue them unless fees are paid.

The law will allow victims of these lawsuits to sue, and for the Attorney General to proceeds with action against patent trolls.

It will go into effect 90 days after the end of the Legislature.
