BANGOR - St. Joseph Healthcare held an Earth Day celebration, educating employees and visitors on the green changes being made around the hospital.
Hospitals use a lot of stuff, and it's not always easy to cut back. But St. Joseph Healthcare is doing its best to go green, using things like environmentally friendly light bulbs, and real dishes.
"You won't even find a trash can in our cafeteria right now because our cafeteria folks will actually go through everything and make sure it's being sorted properly," explains public relation director Amy Allen.
Most of the hospital's vegetables are bought locally, and wellness crews help take care of the grounds, even installing a new bike rack.
It's continuing to get greener, as plans for a new building are environmentally conscious.
Next, St. Joe's will be installing a new dishwasher, cutting down 60% of water and energy costs.
