BANGOR - More than a dozen area food pantries are receiving much needed funds from the Bangor Federal Credit Union.
In total, the credit union donated over $24,000 all coming from money raised over the past year.
Fundraisers included dress down days, a golf tournament, and selling cookbooks.
Those responsible for raising the money say it's rewarding to see the money going to help each pantry.
"One quoted 325 families a week. Another one told me that they are feeding a thousand families a week. That's just right here in Bangor and Brewer. That's a lot of hungry people," says Mary Ann Beatham, a fundraising co-chair.
Collectively, all Maine Credit Unions raised over $500,000 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
