Hammond Lumber has purchased the assets of Dexter supply in Wilton, just five miles away from the company's Farmington facility.
This marks the 13th store for Hammond, which began in 1953 as a three-man sawmill.
Most of the employees of Dexter supply, owned by Kelly and Jennifer Dexter, had worked for the business all of their working lives. Hammond is currently interviewing those Dexter employees who would like to make the transition to Hammond Lumber Company.
“These are very knowledge people,” says Hammond Lumber Vice-President Mike Hammond, “and we looking forward to welcoming them into our company.”
Hammond says the former Dexter facility will run in tandem with Hammond Lumber’s Farmington location, and its manager, Al Feather, will oversee both operations.
Hammond Lumber Company’s other stores are located in Auburn, Bangor, Belgrade, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Damariscotta, Fairfield, Farmington, Greenville, Pemaquid, Portland, and Skowhegan.
