Southern Maine Trash Now Goes To Orrington

Biddeford - A smelly solid waste incinerator in Biddeford has accepted its last load of trash.
Last year the city purchased the so-called "MERC" from Casella Waste and will tear it down to make way for clean economic development.  Meanwhile trash from Southern Maine that used to get burned in Biddeford is going to a co-gen plant in Orrington via a new transfer station in Westbrook.  Casella eventually wants the garbage to be routed to the Juniper Ridge landfill in Old Town.
