Month Long Child Pornography Investigation Results in Arrest

HOULTON - Following a month long investigation a Houlton man has been arrested for allegedly distributing sexually explicit material.

A search of the Stewart Road home of 60 year-old Gary E. Schillinger resulted in the seizing of computers, thumb drives and journals Monday morning.

Officials say the investigation was initiated due to statements made by Schillinger on February 4.

Images posted to his Facebook page prompted authorities to contact the National Center of Missing Children.

Through the organization's help, it was determined that Schillinger was spreading child pornography using his email accounts, which allegedly contained explicit photos of children under the age of 12.

Schillinger was convicted of public indecency in 1985, and three counts of gross sexual misconduct in 1986.

He's also a lifetime registrant on the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
