Study: Urgent Need for Natural Gas Infrastructure

AUGUSTA - Increasing the natural gas pipeline capacity into New England could lower Maine's high electricity prices. That's according to a study released Monday by the state.

The report says electricity customers could save more than $120 million a year if the price of natural gas is reduced to what it costs where it is produced.

A statement released Monday by the Maine Public Utilities Commission Chairman, Tom Welch, says in part, "this report reinforces the need for Maine, and the region, to act quickly to address this vital infrastructure issue."
