Gov. LePage Establishes Invasive Green Crab Task Force

ROCKPORT - A new task force has been established to investigate an invasive species along Maine’s coast.

Governor Paul LePage signed an executive order to create the task force to review the impacts of European green crabs to Maine’s blue mussels and soft-shelled clam population.

LePage says that green crabs are threatening the $25,000,000 shellfish industry, which is the state's 3rd largest.

The announcement was made this morning at the 39th annual Maine Fishermen's Forum in Rockport.

A written report from the task force with recommendations is expected September 30th.
