Farmers Looking for CSAs

Farmers Looking for CSAs

ORONO - It may be hard to believe, but spring is right around the corner.

Local farmers are getting ready for the season, and allowing customers to take part in community supported agriculture, also known as CSA.

The work is similar to presales, with the customer investing in a certain amount of product.

"When you join a CSA here, now, it helps our farmers have cash flow early in the season when it's tight, and often they will give you extra vegetables on an order of about ten percent on top of your CSA share," explains customer John Jemison.

Adds farmer Clayton Carter, "I think that we all get excited looking this time at seed catalogs and thinking about our gardens or farms, and it's a neat way to come and talk to farmers about their plans and just to get excited about the upcoming season and all the great things we have to eat."

A "Meet Your Famers" event will be held March 1st at 1 pm - 4 pm at the Maine Holistic Center.
