Maine Wardens Say Use Caution Around Open Water

Dedham - It may feel like winter with snow now blanketing the ground, but game wardens want Mainers to use caution when going near what look like frozen bodies of water.

Snowmobilers, skiiers, and others heading outdoors need to beware of open water that remains.  The Maine Warden Service says due to recent weather, not all lakes and ponds are frozen, making it very easy for anyone to get disoriented and end up on thin ice...or realize that there is no ice at all.

They recommend carrying a set of ice picks with you, which can be purchased at sporting goods stores...if you're venturing out on thin ice.
