Two-Year Cap On Methadone Treatment Imposed

AUGUSTA - Starting the first of January there will be a two-year cap for MaineCare patients on methadone.

Taxpayers currently subsidize long-term methadone maintenance for more than three-thousand low-income Mainers.

The cap is expected to save millions of dollars within the state's Medicaid program.

Methadone is a synthetic painkiller used to treat drug addiction.
