SOUTH PORTLAND - A woman is lucky to be alive after a serious car accident in South Portland.

State police say the vehicle she was driving in was demolished Tuesday morning after being rear ended by a tractor trailer truck. It happened on the turnpike near Main Street around 8 a.m.

The truck is owned by Branch Brook Transportation out of Arundel. It was hauling gasoline at the time of the crash. Behind the wheel was Frederick Smith of Kennebunk. He was not injured.
