Applications for Three New Charter Schools Move Forward

AUGUSTA - Applications for three new charter schools are moving forward in Augusta.

The Maine Charter School Commission has given initial approval to two virtual schools and one that would be based in Lewiston. An application for one in Windham did not move forward.

Public hearings are now scheduled for the Lewiston-Auburn Academy Charter School, the Maine Connections Academy, and the Maine Virtual Academy.

There are currently five charter schools in the state, with room for five more under Maine's charter school law.
