Bangor Police Warn About Internet Scams
BANGOR - Bangor Police are warning about a scam seeking to get peoples money. They say when making any kind of financial transaction online, many put themselves at risk of being targeted by thieves.
That's something that nearly happened to one Bangor woman. She used Craigslist looking to find an apartment to rent. She received a phone call about the listing... but it appeared to be from Nigeria. Then when the price of the apartment deposit kept changing, out of skepticism, she contacted the police.
The woman also contacted a friend who is a realtor. That friend told her that the apartment listed on craigs-list was actually a listing through his own agency. Police say you should never give out your personal information online unless you know it's to someone you can trust.
