UMaine Nursing Students Headed to Belize

BANGOR - A few University of Maine students will be spending their spring break in Belize, but it's not to enjoy the sun.

About 20 nursing majors will take part in a ten day medical volunteer program.

Students will help provide care to underprivileged villages, and gain hands on experience.

"To be able to experience those clinical hours somewhere else in a place like Belize is just unbelievable. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to do this as a student," says nursing student Shannon Lyons.

Students are holding a fundraiser Sunday morning at Applebees on the Hogan Road in Bangor. From 8:00 am until 10:00 am, you can purchase pancakes to help students raise money for travel costs.
