Mainers Gearing Up for Ice Storm

Media

BANGOR - Shovels, batteries, and flashlights. Oh my! Mainers are gearing up for the upcoming ice storm by heading to local hardware stores.

"It's been a steady stream all day long, nonstop through the door. People looking for ice melts, lamp oil, propane, anything they think that will get through the ice," says Brent Hopkins, the manager of Broadway Hardware.

Sheldon Hartstone, the manager of Fairmount Hardware adds, "This is the first storm I think people are concerned and they are getting prepared."

But one item in particular is heading the quickest off the shelves - ice melts.

Although everyone is focused on melting the ice with salt, remember to stock up on other necessary items.

"Basically, to get out of your home you need to have shovels to get out of your house and also for lights you need to have batteries, a back up of that," says Hartstone.

Don't fret if you realize you may be missing something, store managers say their shelves will be fully stocked with supplies.
