OLD TOWN - Innovators and entrepreneurs packed a room at Kostas's Bar & Grill in Old Town for the second so-called 'Big Gig' event.
This partnership between Orono, Old Town, UMaine, Husson University, and Blackstone Accelerates Growth.
Aims to create a network for entrepreneurs to help develop and implement their ideas.
Tuesday night three groups were selected to pitch their products to a panel of judges.
The winner, Thick & Thin Designs, LLC, a company that makes unique cupcake toppers.
The owners say this presentation was fairly simple.
"We focused on making sure all the points we wanted to cover were shared, and we both knew what we wanted to talk about," Christine Carney, co-owner of Thick & Thin Designs with her husband John, says. "But more than anything we wanted to tell a story. The story of how we met, how this business all started and how we got here today."
"Most of these people are just starting out or are in their first year or two," Renee Kelly, co-director of Foster Center for Student Innovation at UMaine, says. "To get some general feedback from experts on how to refine their idea, is great. No matter what kind of idea you have, whether you need money, support from the community or need a connection, you need to be able to communicate that idea effectively."
If you missed event, the next Big Gig is set for February 8 at Husson University.
