UMaine to Hold Disaster Simulation

ORONO - UMaine is ready to prepare for the unthinkable.

The school will play host to the National Guard as it holds a simulated chemical disaster on Tuesday.

Although the school is confident in its emergency response plan, there is always room for improvement.

"There will be things that we don't know and they're going to throw those at us and we will respond and do the best we can. The best part of these exercises, when we're all done, we all get together and we review what we did well and what we didn't do so well and how we can improve," explains UMaine Safety Director Wayne Maines.

UMaine will be one of three locations in the state holding the drill. School will continue as usual, and the community has been told what to expect.
