ORONO - A two-day celebration of Jewish history and culture kicked off Wednesday at the University of Maine's Collins Center for the Arts.
Wednesday the documentary Defiant Requiem was screened, honoring the prisoners of Theresienstadt (Terezin) concentration camp.
Thursday a symposium beginning at 4:30 will feature three lectures by UMaine professors, and the conductor of the Orchester Jakobsplatz Munich.
At 7 p.m., the orchestra will perform works by Mendelssohn, Gideon Klein and other composers.
The lectures are free and open to the public, while tickets for the concert are available online, or at the Collins Center box office.
