Most Furloughed Guard Employees Return to Work

BANGOR - Maine National Guard officials say most of its personnel and civilian employees returned to work Monday.

Of the 406 federally-funded guard employees furloughed last week, most at Augusta's Camp Keyes, 16 remain out of work.

Despite the ongoing government shutdown, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, over the weekend, ordered the recall of tens of thousands of civilian military workers to their posts.

Secretary Hagel admitted most of the Department of Defense furloughs were unnecessary.
