NORTH YARMOUTH - State police say one man is dead after a shooting that took place late afternoon Sunday.
Authorities say 63-year-old Leon Kelley of Georgetown, who is the son-in-law of the co-owner of Brown's Bee Farm on the Greely Road, was shot by 70-year-old Merrill Kimball of Yarmouth who is the husband of the other co-owner of the business.
The incident happened around 3:15 Sunday afternoon. Kelley was transported from the scene to Maine Medical Center in Portland, but died en-route.
Detectives say Kelley and Kimball got into a confrontation at the business location.
Kimball was detained by state troopers, interviewed, and released. Detectives, now trying to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
Detectives say the investigation will include interviews, a ballistics test on the gun, evidence from the scene, and the autopsy results on Kelley which is expected to take place tomorrow at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta.
