13-year-old Leads Police on 'Erratic' Car Chase

FREEPORT - A 13-year old boy apparently led police on a chase on I-295 Monday afternoon, before officers ordered him from the vehicle at gun point.

Officials say the boy took his parent's car without permission, and proceeded to travel from Gardiner to Freeport.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office received reports of a red 2004 GMC Envoy driving erratically on the Interstate.

Topsham and Freeport police pursued the SUV, at speeds reaching 97 miles per hour.

Officers were eventually able to box the car in, and ordered the boy out, after he stopped in a median near Exit 22.

He's charged with unauthorized use of property, eluding an officer, and operating without a license.
