UMaine Engineers Developing 1st Floating Wind Turbine

ORONO -  Engineers at the University of Maine are busy developing and building the nation's first floating wind turbine.

UMaine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center Director Habib Dagher says the wind blowing off the Maine coast is the equivalent of 150 nuclear power plants.

The first test turbine will launch next summer.

The actual deep shore floating wind turbines UMaine engineers are designing will have blades as tall as the Washington Monument.
