BANGOR - Bangor city councilors have given the green-light to change the traffic pattern at a busy intersection.
As it currently stands drivers coming off I-95 at exit 186 cannot make a left-turn onto Stillwater Avenue.
This prevents residents from easily accessing nearby homes and patrons from visiting some businesses.
"It's a strange intersection there. People were making the left turn there anyways, which is an unsafe situation. So what the council did was pass a resolve that will allow us to move forward and open up the left turn there," Ben Sprague, a Bangor City Councilor, says.
The traffic change still requires approval from the Maine DOT and the Federal Highway Commission.
City councilors say they'll also explore measures to address greater traffic flow through the nearby neighborhood, if the Stillwater intersection change is approved.
