BANGOR - Local businesses came together to support a local non-profit for the elderly.
Innovative Business Networking and Eastern Area Agency on Aging hosted a silent auction event for the "Senior Fuel Fund."
The fund buys oil for seniors who are not able to afford it on a tight budget, and advisers say events like these need to happen more often.
"There's a great need for it in the community. So even small events throughout the community can be a real help," Dyan Walsh, Director of Community Services at Eastern Area Agency on Aging, says.
With the event held at Sunbury Village, an independent senior living community, the motto became 'Seniors Helping Seniors'.
"They get an opportunity to see what goes on in regards to other people, what the needs are, and know that there are people out there that aren't as lucky as they are. It should make them feel like they've been a part of something," Deborah Wisdom, Sales and Marketing Manager at Sunbury Village, says.
Among the items up for auction, a variety of gift baskets, weekend stay-cations, massage vouchers and more.
