BANGOR - The man who Bangor police say caused an armed standoff in downtown on Independence Day made his first court appearance Tuesday.

44 year old Perrin Oliver is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He has yet to be indicted by a federal grand jury.

A detention hearing has been scheduled for October 1st.

The government is requesting Oliver be held without bail because he a poses a danger to the community.

Authorities say he was banned from having guns due to a prior conviction in New York. Oliver was arrested on July 4th after he allegedly fired dozens of rounds from a pistol inside an apartment on Park Street and from a window.
