Bangor Daily News Closes Hampden Printing Facility

HAMPDEN - The Bangor Daily News will no longer be printed locally, as their Hampden press closed today.

The Bangor Publishing Company facility, which opened in 1989, printed the last of it's copies of the paper this morning.

The Bangor Daily News will now be outsourcing a majority of their work to Sun Media Group, owner of the Sun Journal in Lewiston.

A reduced circulation and increased digital audience is the primary reason for the plant's closure.

27 employees are displaced by the closing, but many have been offered jobs at different locations.

Along with Lewiston, the paper will continue to be printed in Brunswick and Presque Isle.
