Corinna Accident Sends Three to the Hospital

CORINNA - Three people in their early twenties are in the hospital tonight, at least two in serious condition with potential life threatening injuries.

It is unclear at this time what caused the accident that happened just after 8 p.m. on Nokomis Road in Corinna.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office initially responded to a call of a vehicle that was rammed from behind in Newport along Route 7 on Moosehead Trail.

The woman that was struck was able to follow the vehicle onto Nokomis Road, where Patrol Deputy Stephen Marko, of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, says, "She came upon a crash scene, and it turned out that the vehicle that had crashed was the same vehicle that had struck her from behind."

The driver of the overturned vehicle was life flighted to a hospital in Bangor, the other two by ambulance to area hospitals.

At this time speed does appear to be a factor.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department and Maine State Police were reconstructing the crash scene to help determine the cause.
