Nasty Bacteria Targets IV Drug Users

Users of the illegal drug known as bath salts had better beware.

Maine health officials are seeing a cluster of serious bacterial illness among those who inject the drug.

Four users in Aroostook and Penobscot counties have recently come down with serious "strep" infections.

Two of the cases resulted in toxic shock, and another in necrotizing fasciitis, otherwise known as "flesh-eating bacteria."

Health authorities suspect the streptococcus bacteria may have been spread by shared needles.
