University of Maine to Split $16 Million Federal Fund for new Energy

ORONO - The University of Maine is one of 17 organizations to split a $16 million federal fund for power production projects using waves, tides, and currents.

Researchers say the project at UMaine will cost a little less than $500,000 and is expected to last two years.

It's part of seven projects nationwide looking to develop clean, renewable energy through wave and tidal devices.

The UMaine project will build on research that started in 2009.
