Organic Farming Pioneer Russell Libby Dies

MOUNT VERNON -  A lifelong crusader for organic farming in the state of Maine has passed away.  
Russell Libby was longtime director of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.  
 
He died Saturday after a year-long battle with cancer.  
 
Libby was at the forefront of the local food movement, arguing since 1977 that small farms are essential to Maine's long-term stability. 
 
The organic farm operator was active in local government, serving as a selectman in the town of Mount Vernon.  
 
He leaves a wife and three daughters.

Clay was hired by WVII/WFVX as a morning anchor for FOX BANGOR's 7AM News Hour and as reporter for the 6,10 & 11 o’clock news in July 2011.

He graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington where he received his B.A. in Journalism. Clay has worked at Fox National News in New York, WTIU in Indianapolis and the Big Ten Network.

In his free time, Clay is a firefighter for the Holden Fire/Rescue Department in Holden and is an avid hockey fan.
