Oxford Man Dies After Falling Through Ice

OXFORD - Authorities say a 17 year-old boy fell through the ice and drowned this afternoon down state. Mild temperatures of late have of course prevented bodies of water from properly freezing.
 

It happened on Chapman Pond  in Oxford at around 2:30 p.m. Game Wardens say 17 year-old Joshua Wardwell of Oxford fell through the ice while checking his beaver traps.

 

His 15 year-old girlfriend witnessed the incident and notified emergency responders.Oxford fire fighters were able to get Wardwell's body out of the water but he was pronounced dead soon after at Stevens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

 

The Maine Warden Service is reminding everyone to use extreme caution with thin ice conditions present.

Raised in Arlington, Mass., Lindsey graduated from Endicott College located in Beverly, Mass. where she majored in Communication. While attending college on the North Shore Lindsey ran the campus newspaper, the Endicott Observer, lead the Endicott Gulls field hockey team as Captain in the 2009 & 2010 seasons, and played for the women’s club hockey team.

For two years Lindsey worked at WCVB Channel 5 News Boston as an ENG producer and writer, while also filling in for various positions in
Chronicle, the station’s nightly news magazine. Additionally, Lindsey contributed to the production of two MDA Labor Day telethons.

When she’s not in the field she can be found on the ice. Lindsey helps out with Brewer’s Youth Hockey Learn to Skate & Learn to Play program and plays on a men’s league team. She also helped to establish Brewer’s first youth under-12 girl’s hockey team.
