The Federal Government has opened the tap on money to help low-income families in Maine heat their homes.
After a delay of a few weeks, Maine housing has released the first round of federal "low income home energy assistance program" payments.
The LIHEAP money has so far helped over 8,000 households this year, already more than half of last year's total of over 12,000 families.
The program runs from mid-august through april, however organizers say appointments fill up fast during the thick of the winter months.
