Dept. of Marine Resources Offers to Replace Broken Lobster Traps, Tags

LAMOINE - Marine patrol officials in the midcoast and downeast regions are fixing broken lobster traps for free.

The Maine Department of Marine Resources says lobstermen with lost tags or broken traps can contact the nearest Marine Patrol Office for replacements, at no cost.

The tags are used for identification purposes and are required on traps. They help officials manage the fishery.

Normally there's a fee to replace tags, but due to a recent problem with manufacturing, marine patrol officials are waving that fee.

For more information, call the Marine Patrol Office in Lamoine at 667-3373, or the office in Boothbay, at 633-9595.
